About Beacon Hill Arts

Winner of the National Lottery Award for UK’s “Best Arts Project” 2010, Beacon Hill Arts CIC supports creative people with learning disabilities, autism and other additional needs to produce and exhibit their own films and music productions from concept to performance. We currently work across North-East England with all ages, but with a particular focus on the 16-25 age bracket.

We believe that people with learning disabilities and additional needs have an equal right to develop their creative talents as those without. We believe that with appropriate support, our artists can use their unique and entertaining creativity as a way to not only develop valuable skills for life and employment but to also dismantle stereotypes of disability by reaching global audiences with their amazing work.

Participants are involved at every stage of the production process. Working alongside industry mentors, our filmmakers develop the script, design the costumes, make the props, shoot their film taking on rotating crew roles, compose and record their film music, edit their work and plan and deliver their premiere event. Working alongside the amazing Uberloon, our musicians compose their music, record at a professional facility and then perform it live at our annual event to an appreciative audience of hundreds. Our work has won many awards and been exhibited the world over.

We are a BFI Film Academy: part of the national initiative to develop the filmmaking aspirations of 16-19 year olds, and the only one in the UK to focus on providing this opportunity to people with learning disabilities, autism and additional needs.

Our work is shown and has won awards at festivals all over the world.
