Selma star says he was ‘pushed

David Oyelowo, the UK actor nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as Martin Luther King Jr in Selma has said that he was ‘pushed out of the UK’ through lack of opportunities for non-white actors according to the Independent newspaper. Speaking at the launch of the Creative Industries Federation/MOBO’s report, Oyelowo said the UK creative industries have failed to nurture talent from non-white backgrounds and that he had to work four times as hard as his friend Benedict Cumberbatch to get to a similar position.
