Government update on apprenticeships

The government has published a funding guide this week detailing apprenticeship funding rates in England and how the levy will operate in the near future. It acknowledged that its previous proposals to remove uplifts to rates received by providers for training apprentices from disadvantaged areas failed to take into account additional costs associated with supporting such individuals and will retain, for frameworks only, a simplified version of the current system. This will last for one year. In addition, there will be higher funding for STEM apprenticeship frameworks. Employers’ levy payments (for employers with a salary bill of over £3 million a year) will start in April 2017 and digital training vouchers will be available from May 2017. Employers will be given 24 months to spend funds in their digital account, up from the original proposal of 18 months. To read more, click here.
