BECTU and the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain have announced they are to boycott the broadcast diversity initiative Project Diamond, accusing it of not being transparent enough. The initiative, which is managed by the Creative Diversity Network (CDN) on behalf of the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky, aims to capture the equality monitoring data of all those working on programmes they commission. However, it will only publish this data for genres and job grades, while the unions want to see data for individual programmes or series. According to the unions, this fail to bring about any significant improvement in minority ethnic representation within television. To read more, click here.
